Combating Self-Limiting Beliefs & Personal Development

Self-limiting beliefs can be described as destructive thought patterns focusing on those goals in your life you believe you cannot achieve. They are often biased opinions of yourself that may or may not be based on truth.

These beliefs constitute, in essence, negative programming that blocks not only creativity but also positive energy. Positive energy is needed for us to remain motivated and inspired. If this energy is blocked, our motivation drops and as a result our progression in life is impeded.

This workshop aims to help the participant understand and explore the nature of self limiting beliefs, what causes them and how they can be addressed.

Participants will be asked to look inwards at their own psyche and identify areas of their lives where self limiting beliefs play a part. They will then, assisted by the facilitator, come up with specific ways in which they can begin to reverse these beliefs.

"I would rather have a mind opened by wonder than closed by belief". The above is a quote by trial lawyer, Gerry Spence in his book How to Argue & Win Every Time. It sums up the importance of having an open mind, and how negative, self-limiting beliefs can close us down.

When we talk of self-limiting beliefs, we are often not necessarily talking about something real or tangible. We are talking about a train of thought that could lead us to act in ways that are not helpful to us. Our belief system acts as a filter through which we see the world, and influences the ‘spin’ we put on our life. This workshop will help delegates to understand the power of the belief system and how it can influence our lives.

NLP, Self limiting beliefs & Personal Development

The workshop focuses on is ways in which delegates can bring a fresh perspective to situations they have perhaps only been looking at in one way. This is known in neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) as ‘reframing’, and is just one of a range of useful tools the Combating Self Limiting Beliefs workshop will be looking at that can be used to begin to overcome negative belief systems. NLP is a science that originated in the 1970s and focuses on encouraging positive behavioural change through specific thought patterns and positive mental programming.

The Combating Self Limiting Beliefs workshop is aimed at those who suffer from self limiting beliefs, and wish to address them, and those who are interested in knowing more about them.

By the end of the workshop participants will have learnt:

  • To recognise where they stem from
  • About the consequences of long-standing self-limiting beliefs
  • To apply specific tools and techniques to boost self belief and de-construct negative beliefs and thought patterns
  • How to devise your own plan designed to control and eventually reverse your self limiting beliefs
