Advanced Planning for Personal Development & Growth

If we are to achieve what it is we set out to achieve, it is essential that we know how to systematically put a plan of action in motion to achieve it. A good level of knowledge regarding personal planning is a pre-requisite to personal development advancement.

Good planning puts us in control, gives us an overview, minimises our stress levels and prevents us from throwing caution to the wind in the hope that the outcome is what we want. Leaving our lives in the hands of fate is sometimes a healthy option, however, there are times when we need to put plans in place to assist us to carve out our future.

This workshop is sometimes run along side the goal setting workshop as there are overlaps between both setting goals and planning. The workshop takes you through a step by step method of how to set up a planning system and successfully reach your desired goal.

The workshop is aimed at those who want to increase their organisational and business skills and develop the ability to establish a planning system and put it into action.

Cycle of Learning

According to David Kolb, Professor of organisational behaviour who devised a cycle of learning that is now widely used in business and management, we have an experience, we review how the experience went, we draw conclusions about it and then we plan for the next experience.

The most important part of that cycle is arguably the planning. Planning is the part of that cycle that will directly influence the type of experience we have at the end.

Planning could be said to be something we seem to do well in certain, specific areas of our lives, but do not necessarily apply that same approach to our lives in general. For example, it has been said that people put more effort in to planning their own wedding day than they do planning the rest of their lives together.

Ideally we should plan in advance of each day so that we know exactly what we are going to do that day, when we are going to do it and how we are going to do it. We should plan each month in the same way, and even, some would say, each year. We can then focus on the activities of the day, week, month and year rather than waste time wondering what to do next.

By the end of this session you should be able to:

  • Appreciate what planning is and why it is so important
  • Understand the principles of how to plan
  • Know how to use planning tools
  • Use the tools to establish a plan of action
